- I have seen alot of requests for this but not many answers. Can someone
- tell me if there is a better IRC client for Winsock than WINIRC? The MAC has
- some extremely nice programs like Homer and such and I was wondering if there
- was such a thing for Windows.

- Subject: Chameleon Mail --> Reply

-
- Hello All,
-
- I would appreciate some help from Chameleon 4.0 users. Although I'm able to
- receive my e-mail through the "mail" program, the "send" function does not seem
- to be working. The messages stay in the "outbox". I'm not sure if this is a
- setting problem or a bug in the program.
-
- thanks in advance for you help.

- Subject: WinQVT/Winsock can't find Winsock.dll
-
- I'm trying to run WinQVT, and have a strange problem. It won't run unless
- another application that uses the Winsock DLL has already loaded the DLL
- (such as Mosaic, or NCSA Finger). Why are these applications able to find
- and load the DLL on their own, and QVT is not? What am I missing in the
- setup? I even have the Winsock dll in my path....
-
- My sysadmin mentioned that some winsock applications might not run if
- they weren't in the same directory as the winsock dll, but this seems
- incredible (I don't want to have to put all of QVT in c:\net\ftp, for
- instance). What's the solution?
-
- Thanks!

- Subject: Winsock-based Mailing List servers?
-
- Greetings...
- Have any readers of this group heard of a winsock-based mailing list server?
- I'd like to start a mailing list here, but we're limited to a Windows
- platform. I'm looking for something similar to majordomo in the Windows
- environment. Anyone know of anything like this?
- Obviously, I have other choices: run Linux and just use LISTSERV or
- Majordomo, or use a powerful Win-based mail program and do most of the work
- myself. Any suggestions about how to proceed would be appreciated...

- Subject: Experimental weekend FTP server open (again!)
-
- OK, I'm going to try it again. I'm opening up my PC as an ftp server over the
- weekend. THIS IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE A PERMANENT FTP SERVER. I'm just doing
- an experiment to see how well the software holds up. Last weekend it
- didn't hold up so well. This weekend I'm going to try to do some things a
- little differently.
-
- Any of you who may have tried this last weekend might not have been lucky
- enough to get on my machine and check out what's there. Those of you who did
- get to logon, I hope you found something useful there.
-
- **WHERE*****************
- Do an anonymous ftp to 128.183.22.177 and use your e-mail address as a password
- (you need an @ in there somewhere to make it work).
-
- **WHEN******************
- >From the time you read this today, Friday March 18th, to whenever I get to work
- Monday morning, March 21st, usually around 7:30am EST (12:30 GMT). If things
- go as well as last weekend, you'll have until sometime on Saturday before the
- software quits. Let's hope it works better this weekend.
-
- **WHAT******************
- You'll find there in the /pub directory four .txt files. One's a welcome file,
- the other three are index lists for the subdirectories. I suggest you read the
- welcome file first and then come back and look around.
-
- Of particular interest might be the bitmaps I have of lots of castles in
- Germany. Some are really spectacular.
-
- **WHAT ELSE*************
- You'll be logging into a 486 DX2 66MHz machine with 16MB memory running MS-DOS
- 6.2, Windows 3.1, and using NetManage's ChameleonNFS 4.0. You'll be
- reading from a 128MB rewritable optical drive. Although these drives are not
- slow, they're not the fastest either. If you get a slow but steady download,
- then things are doing fine.
-
- However, if things seem REALLY SLOW, for instance, if it takes more than a couple
- seconds to get a text file, PLEASE LOG OFF AND TRY AGAIN LATER. An absurdly
- slow system probably means too many people are logged in at the same time.
-
- If you happen to be using WS_FTP, there's a Chameleon setting that works great.
-
- **FINALLY***************
- Drop me an e-mail message if you have any problems, or even if you don't have
- any problems. If you think of it, let me know the day and approximate time
- you logged on.
-
- That's about it. Happy FTPing!
